Less Privacy is Good for Us (and You)

In my opinion, privacy is something that we are all entitled to. In Etzioni's article he says less is actually more. Saying that the less privacy is actually better for the economy "safety" wise. I can't say i agree with Etzioni. I think every citizen needs as much privacy as they believe needed, but of course blockading yourself in your house is definetly not safe. Privacy is a big issue but it is also something that will never be solved. No one can tell anybody what is being too private or what they need to do about it. You cant make a law or draw a line to how private anyone can be. I like how Etzioni makes this small article into a big issue. In my opinion, this draws controversies, but in a good way.

  1. I do agree with you when you say that citizens deserve as much privacy as needed and the fact that even if there is a law that states a certain amount of privacy a citizen has, it still is not going to make people follow it. I do believe that changing from the First Amendment to the Fourth Amendment is a start. Hopefully people will realize that just barging into someones house without a warrant is not okay. I do also like how Etzioni gives good examples of how our privacy is being abused.

  2. I think you shouldn't be to private... because of safety reasons that is. There are some crazy people out there that do not need privacy, in fact it would be a better thing to take thier privacy away. But overall I agree with you on the fact that the article is blown way out of proportion.

  3. I think a law that has a very define line on what you do and do not have dealing with privacy is definitely something that should be put into affect. I agree with what you have said.

  4. How much privacy a person is entitled to is definitely something that will never be agreed upon. I agree with your statement that no one can tell us how much privacy is "too private" or not private enough.

  5. Everyone has there right to a private life, but when it comes to safety issues I think that the limits should be pushed back. These days, your address is asked on virtually every application you fill out but I do not see the point of this? Why should stores and credit card companies know where you live? But when it comes to HIV, I believe that mothers should be tested so that their children do not get this disease.

  6. I agree with you, privacy is something we are given by our government and I think people deserve to have that right to keep their life private. We all have private lives and not everyone wants to share that to the world. Your address is asked on every application because stores and credit card companies need to have somewhere to bill you. This isn’t essentially for means of knowing where you live but for your mailing address. There are some situations where I can see privacy being penalized and used in negative ways but for those who are living life right; it’s only fair to give them their personal space.

  7. I agree with you there will be no middle ground on the amount of privacy. Yes i do believe that we need some privacy but that we also have to have less privacy to protect our self and other. In my blog I gave an example of using pilots but there are many other examples. Do you want to give privacy to child predator that way they would not have to say were they are living and have no background checks a school employer since that evades privacy. Sow in a way we need to get to the middle ground of privacy.
