Immokalee, otherwise known as "my home" has taken a change in a great way since the 1800's. From raising cattle and supplying the seminole indians with their daily needs, to processing goods and producing oil, Immokalee, has changed in a great way since the indians reigned. A casino is also in Immokalee today, run by the ancestors children themselves. Ft. Myers is not so different from where i grew up in Texas. The only difference is the earlier founding and running by the mexican indians. Agriculturally, Victoria, Texas is not too different than Ft. Myers or Naples.
Immokalee in my opinion, is part of the Old American Dream. Like my hometown in Texas it is small and not as populated as New York or L.A. It would not be so difficult to live here in the future.

My home town Fort Meade is a lot like Immokalee, small town and agriculturally stable. However, Immokalee is flourishing at rapid rates. With the building of casinos and a University will make Immokalee better known in the future. I do agree that they are still living the “old” American Dream, but I believe that it won’t take them long to have a better understanding of the “new” American Dream as the years go by. Soon Immokalee will be highly populated and popular, whether that thanks will go to the casinos, the University or both. Immokalee has features that can and will make them well known as the years pass.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with you that they are still in the old American. I see Immokalee soon will be moving to the New American Dream since education has started. The casino will be there best attraction. Also I have seen the University that is being built and it look like a small town but to be a university it is huge.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't think you can classify Immokalee as the "old" or "new" American Dream. Yes, they have flourished as a community but they seem to live life on the own terms and isolate themselves from other communities. I feel like that is what makes Immokalee special and gives them their own classification.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Imokalee is part of the Old American Dream, at least it was when it was first settled. You really don't see people now a days farming and growing their own food or raising their own cattle.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that Immokalee is the Old American Dream but isnt it also the New American Dream also? I mean think about it, the New American Dream is where people come to American but still keep all of their old habits and still believe in whatever they believe in. The Old American Dream was where people tried so hard just to fit in.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you in the fact that Immokalee holds the old American Dream. Todays dream is to be powerful, popular, and make money. The Old Dream was just to get by and how they could make the city better instead of how they can make themselves better
ReplyDeleteI agree that Immokalee is part of the old American Dream, but I also think it is part of the new American Dream. Nowadays all people care about is money. Gambling and the Seminole casino is a good representation of this idea. I have never been to Texas, but I'm sure you are right about it being more like Fort Myers or Immokalee rather than New York.
